Purpose of the Catalogue
The AMBKI Public Domain Literature Library aims to present a curated collection of public-domain historical and literary texts, making them accessible to readers with editorial context. The catalogue is intended to facilitate exploration of works that might otherwise be overlooked, by providing clear bibliographic records and thoughtful commentary on each text’s style, structure, and historical significance.
Scope and Selection
The collection consists of 95 titles drawn from Project Gutenberg, focusing on history, archaeology, and cultural studies. Selections are made based on their relevance to ancient and medieval civilizations, their variety of narrative approaches, and their availability as public-domain texts. No preference is given to any particular school of historiography; the aim is to represent diverse voices from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Source Attribution
All texts in this catalogue originate from Project Gutenberg, a volunteer-driven repository of public-domain works. Each book record explicitly lists Project Gutenberg as the publisher. No original manuscripts or print editions are held by AMBKI; the library serves as a pointer to these freely available digital editions.
Bibliographic Records
Each book record includes the title, author(s), publisher, subject keywords from the Library of Congress system, a target-reader field, and a catalogue note.
