Estimate by Word Count
Enter the book's word count, and the calculator will show estimated reading time at different speeds.
Choose a book, record where you are, and set a daily goal. Your progress is stored in localStorage in this browser; it is not uploaded to a user account.
If the EPUB has no fixed print pagination, the tool starts with an estimated page count and lets you replace it with the page total shown by your own reader.

The Reading Time Calculator helps you estimate how long it will take to read a book from this catalog. It uses the book's word count and your personal reading speed to give an estimate.
Start with the book's listed reading minutes as a baseline, then adjust for your own pace. The median book in this catalog has about 94,904 words and takes roughly 413 minutes at average speed.
Enter the book's word count, and the calculator will show estimated reading time at different speeds.
If you read faster or slower than average, adjust the speed to get a personalized estimate.
Use the estimate to plan how many sessions you'll need, or to decide if a book fits your schedule.
The Reading Tracker is a straightforward way to manage your progress through a book. It records your current page, the total number of pages, and a daily page goal. Progress is measured in pages, not in sections or minutes. If the catalog does not provide a fixed page count, the tracker estimates the total as the word count divided by 250, which is the configured words per page. You can override this estimate with the total shown by your own reading app or edition.
The default daily goal is 20 pages, but you can adjust it to fit your schedule. The tracker calculates the estimated remaining time as a proportion of the total reading minutes, and the estimated finish days as the remaining pages divided by your daily goal, rounded up. For example, consider The archæology of Rome, Part 7 — Background and Themes (id 301), which has 50,294 words and an estimated reading time of 219 minutes. At 250 words per page, that is roughly 201 pages. With a 20-page daily goal, you would finish in about 11 days.
If you have only 15 minutes a day, you might set a lower goal, such as 10 pages, which would extend the finish time to about 21 days. The tracker is flexible; it does not judge your pace, it simply shows you the consequences of your choices. This can help you avoid the discouragement of an overly ambitious goal.
The Reading Tracker works best when you combine it with the information from the catalog. Word count and reading minutes give you a sense of the overall commitment, while the page estimate helps you break it into daily chunks. For a book like Museum of Antiquity: A Description of Ancient Life (294,294 words, 1,280 minutes), the estimated page count is about 1,177 pages. At 20 pages a day, that is roughly 59 days. Knowing that in advance can help you decide whether to commit to such a long work.
The tracker stores your progress history in your browser's localStorage, so no account is required. You can update your current page after each reading session, and the tracker will recalculate your remaining time and estimated finish date. This makes it easy to pick up where you left off, even if you take a break.
The tracker's page estimate is based on a standard of 250 words per page, but your physical book or e-reader may have a different page count. The tracker allows you to replace the total page count with the number shown by your own reading app or edition. This is especially useful for books with large-format pages or small print, where the word-per-page ratio differs significantly.
For example, if you are reading The Plague of Athens (10,956 words), the estimated page count would be about 44 pages at 250 words per page. But if your edition has 60 pages, you can enter 60 as the total, and the tracker will adjust its calculations accordingly. This ensures that your progress is measured accurately, no matter how the text is laid out.
